This time it was just me, Haydo and Ethan, out for a little canyon frolick in nature. It had been a while since we had visited the Gambe, and we hadn’t yet been through Water Dragon Canyon.
I have awesome friends.
At one point Ethan found his own way back up the other side of the Gambe to the start of the canyon… which looked to be a bit of a tight squeeze!
We finally made it to the start of the canyon, and swiftly caught up to a young canyoning group from the University of Newcastle, who kindly let us jump in front.
The main abseil is a glorious one! It was a mega hot day in mid November, so no wetsuits were needed!
After the main drop the canyon gets enclosed and quite pretty. Perfect time for a canyon selfie!
To this day I am still impressed I managed to find my way along this mossy rock wall without slipping or falling in! Ethan is a cat in nature so he has NO issues.
One more beautiful canyon chamber before we meet back with the Gambe.
The Wollongambe is a large canyon in itself, with towering cliff walls on either side. It is one of the most picturesque natural regions of the Blue Mountains. On a hot day there was nothing better than floating downstream to our exit hike back up the mountain.
