It was Slaydies weekend! Held annually in the Blue Mountains on the first weekend of summer/December, so Jess and I decided to put up a group canyoning trip through Hat Hill Canyon.

Hayden also joined us as an honorary slaydie!

We had a super lovely group for the day!

There are no abseils in Hat Hill Canyon, but there are a few tricky climb downs! Luckily Haydo was there to help!

I was a little surprised at how beautiful this canyon was! Considering its location close to Blackheath, it isn’t one of the more popular canyons in the Blue Mountains. Apparently, up until mid 2008 the Blackheath Sewerage Treatment Plant was releasing treated effluent into Hat Hill Creek, so it was understandably avoided for some time!

Luckily for us, and for being 18 years later, the water was perfectly clear and fresh!

I was trying to take lots of photos for Slaydies content, but I also couldn’t stop taking photos of the canyon ether! It as so beautiful.

We stopped to take some nicer photos in this super picturesque part of the canyon. Come to think about it… the water is a little brown looking…

Don’t forget to look up! Some of the best parts of a canyon are the fern covered curvy canyon walls! Shaped by nature over hundreds of thousands of years!

Another one of my favourite parts of this canyon… This beautiful wide chamber with a side creek waterfall.

I also found some jelly fungi!!! I believe it is crystal brain fungus. So gooey and goopey!

The canyon ends at the top of Hat Hill Falls, dropping 70m down into the Grose Valley. A pretty epic end to a beautiful canyon if you ask me!

We sat and had lunch overlooking these incredible iconic Blue Mountains views. From here the exit hike heads straight up the hill and onto a formed walking track that leads to the top of Hat Hill itself.

One last group photo for the day! We all survived!

How great are these views?! I would have to say one of the best exit hikes there are in the Blue Mountains. An epic day out canyoning and meeting new people!
