Rachmartee

Bells Corner is a sweet, short, punchy canyon near a corner bend of Bells Line of Road. The short canyon also features the shortest entry and exit hike of any Blue Mountains (or any) Canyons, it is less than 2km from car to car.

The canyon is also previously known at ‘Dugs Canyon’, apparently 24 years ago the late Dug F along with two other canyoners had spotted the canyon from a lookout and saw a ‘dark hole’ leading to a descent of the canyon. However, it appears they weren’t the first ones to descend the canyon, as there were some slings already set up as anchors on their first time through the canyon.

The first pitch! it was a short but scrubby hike to the start of the canyon, with the first pitch from a rope anchor around this tree.

It is a big drop into the main constriction of the canyon, which I imagine is the previously described ‘dark hole’.

It is a stunning abseil, and short but beautiful section of canyon. We visited during the Christmas holidays so didn’t bother with wetsuits. It was an almost dry canyon, so they certainly weren’t needed!

Looking out from the base of the big drop. Canyon environments are ridiculously stunning. The water, the cliffs, the narrow passageways, the ferns!!! You can’t beat it.

The constriction continues for a short while, and then swiftly opens up. A very short canyon, but very worth doing if passing through!

The hike back up the top of the cliffs was short too, which we LOVE. With stunning views overlooking Bowens Creek.
