Deep Pass Canyon

Deep Pass Canyon

This time it was just Luke and myself, exploring Deep Pass Canyon. What a treat.

I had heard a lot about Deep Pass, but seeing the photos of all the ropes and wooden planks to help tourists through the canyon has always turned me off. I love exploring wild canyons that show no evidence of human presence. But, as we were having a nice romantic weekend in the Blue Mountains, just the two of us, it was nice to seek out a more leisurely canyon.

Right at the start of the canyon. Gosh he is handsome.

I was surprised at how beautiful some of these waterfalls and pools were. Look at how blue the water is!

It was a really beautiful creek with some really nice waterfalls.

One of the most bizarre things I have seen in a canyon! Two crayfish feeding (or fighting?!) on either end of a dead snake.

This part of the canyon was beautiful, getting tall and narrow. This was the point we started to see the ropes and logs to help you navigate through the canyon without getting into the water. Still not a big fan of the human addition.

This was the trickiest part of the canyon to navigate with keeping dry feet! Someone has clearly gone to a lot of effort to install these ‘handrails’ and ‘walkways’.

Typically the notes say to reverse back through the canyon, but we didn’t really feel like it. Instead, we found our own way through the bush and back up to the cars, which was significantly shorter and a lot easier in our minds.

I’m Rach!

Welcome to Rachmartee, my personal collection of adventures through-out Australia over the years. Here, I invite you to join me, my friends or my pups on a journey of mishaps, bush bashes, lesser known trails, heartfelt stories and epic scenery!

I have lived and grown up within the ACT and rural NSW my whole life. Getting outside fills my heart with joy and wonder, it calms my nerves, helps me feel grounded and helps me feel connected to this world. I hope these stories and adventures will be an archive collection I can reflect back on for many years, for my family to see what I am getting up to on all these crazy trips and for my children to one day see the crazy and wild things that shaped who their mother is.
