Dargans Creek Canyon

Dargans Creek Canyon

It was an exciting weekend! I was bringing Luke to the Blue Mountains to meet my group of wild adventurous friends. We had only been officially dating for a month at this stage, but an opportunity to bring together a group of all my favourite people made me very warm and fuzzy.

This was also Luke’s first ever canyon, even though he had grown up in the Blue Mountains. As a gentle introduction to canyoning, we decided Dargans Canyon was a great first trip as it is relatively short, easy to navigate and has no abseils. None of our group had completed the canyon either – so it was a win/win!

In hindsight, we entered the creek very high up, which I believe there is now a decent sized abseil that drops you right before the start of the canyon. Either way, we didn’t mind following the creek.

One of my favourite canyon group selfies.

He just looks so good in a canyon!

Lili went full worm mode for the slide.

We had so much fun on this little slide, there is nothing better than exploring through nature’s own fun park with your friends.

Being in a canyon just makes you smile. Brooke always has the best canyon stoke. Unfortunately my phone lens at this point had cracked, so photos will be a bit fuzzy as water was getting where it shouldn’t.

SUN RAYS!

This was a fun little climb down into a deep pool. The sun rays made it even better.

After this point, the canyon just kept getting better.

Look at those beautiful canyon walls!! With beautiful Jess for scale.

My love, in a canyon, phenomenal.

This is the type of canyon you can stay in for hours, very underrated if you ask me.

It was September, so still plenty cold! You can see Ethan steaming in the sunlight.

The final section of canyon.

The creek then opens up, with a waterfall on a side tributary signalling our exit. There are fixed ropes in place which made climbing up the slippery waterfall a lot easier.

Ethan had collected a frog friend he decided to bring along for the ride.

The waterfalls on all these side creeks were so picturesque! It was so beautiful.

This is one of the most fun and interesting exits in any Canyons I have done so far. There are old steel spikes in the tree which make it possible to climb up the tree to the rock ledge above.

No one seems to know who or when these steel spikes were installed on the tree… but it seems it was before 1960, which is amazing!

From the rock ledge it was a pretty easy trek back to the cars.

I’m Rach!

Welcome to Rachmartee, my personal collection of adventures through-out Australia over the years. Here, I invite you to join me, my friends or my pups on a journey of mishaps, bush bashes, lesser known trails, heartfelt stories and epic scenery!

I have lived and grown up within the ACT and rural NSW my whole life. Getting outside fills my heart with joy and wonder, it calms my nerves, helps me feel grounded and helps me feel connected to this world. I hope these stories and adventures will be an archive collection I can reflect back on for many years, for my family to see what I am getting up to on all these crazy trips and for my children to one day see the crazy and wild things that shaped who their mother is.
