How about an abseil closer to home? After all, the Blue Mountains is a 2.5 – 3 hour one way drive from where I live, and I was starting to feel very burnt out from all the travelling and driving.
Ethan knew of an ocean slot abseil on the Central Coast. Hell yeah I thought, and under an hour from home!

We set off from the carpark along the fire trails and came passed this old WWII bunker. There are HEAPS of WWII bunkers and relics all along the central coast from Sydney up to Port Stephens.

It was nice to have views of the ocean along the way, not something you get in the mountains!

We could see all the way across to Mount Tomaree in Port Stephens! Which would be a good 2+hrs away from where we were.

We found our ocean slot!

It was a good 30m drop into the slot, which felt very much like being in a Blue Mountains slot canyon, just an ocean canyon?!

You do need to time yourself wisely with the ocean tide, as its nicer to be able to land on dry sand rather than in the water!

We decide to do a bit of ascending practice while we are here. After all, we really couldn’t ask for a better training space!

The exit out of the slot is very easy, you just walk up the end until you find a fixed ladder to help you out. Be mindful of the ladder though, it isn’t the most stable.

We decide to check out a few more sea caves and cliffs before hiking back to the cars.

A glorious day out in nature with a good mate.
