Wotta Canyon

Wotta Canyon

It was my 30th birthday! So I decided I wanted to spend the day doing a cruisy short canyon with some of my favourite people.

Unfortunately, I chose Wotta canyon.

To be fair, I had seen online that Wotta was some peoples favourite canyon (?!) and with the super short trip and the fact I hadn’t seen the canyon before, I thought it was a good fit.

The entry hike albeit short, required navigating across a very spikey swamp, which already was NOT fun.

We finally made it to the start of the canyon! The scrub was very overgrown.

There is nothing better than sliding down slippery abseils!

Ethan is a bit of a freak of nature. Somehow he manages to never slip?! We are convinced he is part cat.

There are a few fun drops and abseils in this part of the canyon, but this is as deep and canyony it gets.

For the most part the creek was pretty scrubby and open, and the canyon section was over all too soon.

But I did get to spend the day with some of my favourite people, so that was a big WIN.

The water was so incredibly clear and glassy! I don’t think this is a location that is frequently visited by humans.

Maybe in another hundred thousand years this will be the most incredible canyon.

What a wonderful group of people.

We decided to reverse up Birrabang Brook, but the creek never got any more interesting. This photo was at the nicest section. Contrary to the entry hike, the exit hike back up to the main road was quite pleasant and easy going.

Definitely a canyon you only do once!

I’m Rach!

Welcome to Rachmartee, my personal collection of adventures through-out Australia over the years. Here, I invite you to join me, my friends or my pups on a journey of mishaps, bush bashes, lesser known trails, heartfelt stories and epic scenery!

I have lived and grown up within the ACT and rural NSW my whole life. Getting outside fills my heart with joy and wonder, it calms my nerves, helps me feel grounded and helps me feel connected to this world. I hope these stories and adventures will be an archive collection I can reflect back on for many years, for my family to see what I am getting up to on all these crazy trips and for my children to one day see the crazy and wild things that shaped who their mother is.
