Whungee Whengee Canyon

Whungee Whengee Canyon

Ahh Whungee Whengee Canyon! When I first heard about this canyon I was honestly terrified. An epically long canyon constriction filled with a series of ‘duck unders’. Yes, you heard that right. There are a series of spots where, to progress through this canyon, you are required to take a deep breath, swim through water and ‘duck under’ rock formations that sit just on or below water level. Basically an underwater water tunnel!

That was a hard no from me, at least until November 2022…

It is definitely one of the more beautiful and longest canyons I have ever been in.

Abundant caverns, glow worms, waterfalls, underwater tunnels, constricted slots and a swim in the Wollongambe at the end, it really has it all.

Some of the abseils are a little tricky, I do remember swinging right under the boulder in this one… all a part of the fun!

Unfortunately I didn’t get any photographs of the duck unders, but one of my mates took some incredible videos he turned into the most epic reel. Just look at that water!

Right before the canyon joins the Wollongambe, you get to navigate through one of the most narrow and lengthy slot constrictions there are in the Blue Mountains!

At times it started to feel like it was never going to end!

What a treat it is, to be blessed with the ability to experience wild places like this.

I’m Rach!

Welcome to Rachmartee, my personal collection of adventures through-out Australia over the years. Here, I invite you to join me, my friends or my pups on a journey of mishaps, bush bashes, lesser known trails, heartfelt stories and epic scenery!

I have lived and grown up within the ACT and rural NSW my whole life. Getting outside fills my heart with joy and wonder, it calms my nerves, helps me feel grounded and helps me feel connected to this world. I hope these stories and adventures will be an archive collection I can reflect back on for many years, for my family to see what I am getting up to on all these crazy trips and for my children to one day see the crazy and wild things that shaped who their mother is.

Let’s connect
