Upper South Bowens

Upper South Bowens

With an up-coming hiking and canyoning trip to New Zealand coming up, it was decided to have a bit of a training run through Upper South Bowens. It was the first time I had done this canyon and I was really wowed by how beautiful it is.

Of course, it is now one of my favourite canyons in the Blue Mountains!

Stoke was high as the abseils kept dropping! This drop is my favourite abseil in this canyon.

Shortly after this drop you walk past the end of Corkscrew Canyon, which is well worth the side trip to explore up!

Then back down to continue through the main canyon!

This is not the first time I have spotted ghost mushies in canyons! I am STILL yet to see them at night time.

There is a long scrubby dry creek walk in the middle of the canyon before it drops back to delicious canyon formation.

Then onto the exit track! Which is an adventure on its own! This would have to be the most enjoyable Blue Mountains canyon exits in my opinion. Full of fun (and tricky) climbs, chutes, straight up and then a cruisy walk along the fire trail back to the cars.

Here is Mark disappearing up the chute! It’s quite easy to miss this one, I have definitely walked straight past it on a few occasions.

I’m Rach!

Welcome to Rachmartee, my personal collection of adventures through-out Australia over the years. Here, I invite you to join me, my friends or my pups on a journey of mishaps, bush bashes, lesser known trails, heartfelt stories and epic scenery!

I have lived and grown up within the ACT and rural NSW my whole life. Getting outside fills my heart with joy and wonder, it calms my nerves, helps me feel grounded and helps me feel connected to this world. I hope these stories and adventures will be an archive collection I can reflect back on for many years, for my family to see what I am getting up to on all these crazy trips and for my children to one day see the crazy and wild things that shaped who their mother is.
