I’ll admit, I have a bit of a knack of figuring out who of my family and friends I can visit that will get me closer to possible weekend or day trips… It is the best bang for buck weekend getaway, you get to visit your nearest and dearest AND go see some incredible places.
This particular weekend I headed from Newcastle down to the sweet country town of Holbrook to visit my eldest brother and his family, with the goal of a day trip to Mount Buffalo in-between catch-ups.
Now, to break this down the drive from my house to my brothers house is 7 hrs and 13mins (of course we stop over at the family farm to spend a night on the way), and from my brothers house to Mount Buffalo is 2 hrs and 28 mins. EASY… almost 10 hours one way?! Basically nothing with a few overnight stays!
Where I went:
- Mount Buffalo
- Lady Bath Falls
- Eurobin Falls
- Rollasons Falls
- Dicksons Falls Nature Walk
- Chalwell Galaries Track
- Crystal Brook Falls
- Bright Township
Now, first and foremost I must share some quick photos of my visit with my family as this was the very first time the first love of my life was confirmed pregnant with PUPPIES!! The luck of having siblings who are veterinarians hehe.

Mount Buffalo
When I first arrived at Mount Buffalo, after one of the most beautiful drives through country Victoria, I had to pull over the snap a photo. Incredible scenes of multiple waterfalls and rugged mountain peaks. I was so stoked for what this mountain had in store for me today!

Lady Bath Falls
It’s crazy looking back at this now, but Lady Bath Falls was actually my first ever Victorian Waterfall! I guess growing up I only really visited Melbourne or the country side, but I was pretty shocked when I first realised this!

She is a sweet little punchy thing.

Eurobin Falls
Euorbin falls lies shortly beyond Lady Bath Falls, and one of the waterfalls you could see in my very first photo of Mount Buffalo. The hiking track was well maintained and split the falls into an upper and a lower section.
Eurobin falls are huge! And look like they would make for a pretty wild slide.

Rollasons Falls
Next I headed a little further up the mountain to visit Rollasons Falls. A pretty nice punchy fall! I can’t recall if I visited after much rain, but there was certainly plenty of water around.

I was clearly having a terrible time.

I am not sure if it has another name but there was a second fall not far from the main Rollasons falls!

Dicksons Falls Nature Walk
My next stop was all the way to the top of the Mountain, where lush green rainforest turned into an alpine oasis with snow covered peaks!
I had ambitions to visit The Horn Lookout and picnic area, but due to the weather and time of year the road was closed, so the Dicksons Falls Nature Walk was the furthest north I was getting today, and I wasn’t mad about it.

The scenes!! The nature walk takes you through alpine swamps, it felt so serene to me to be standing in this type of environment just after hiking to lush green rainforest waterfalls.

It was wet, it was rainy, but playing in the snow was lots of fun.

Chalwell Galaries Track
After my snow adventures I headed back down the mountain for a much welcomed warm up with nachos and a hot choccie, checking out my maps to see where else I wanted to visit, and the Chalwell Galaries Track caught my eye!

There were a few other walks that caught my eye, such as the Old Galleries track and Mohomets Tomb, but considering my limited time I opted for the Chalwell Galleries due to the ease of access and short circuit track.

I was not dissapointed with my choice!!

There were epic cracks in the rock that made perfect human friendly passageways. It felt like being in a rocky bouldery theme park and I was there for it.

Crystal Brook Falls
My last stop on the mountain was to Crystal Brook Falls. The views from the top of the falls were epic, and a popular canyoning start for Victorian Canyoners. I’ve known a few people who have completed the canyon, and it looks like an epic undertaking! Maybe one day ill be back to do the canyon.

Unfortunately my photos really don’t do it justice how large these falls are as they thunder down the mountain. I really need to start taking my drone out again!

Bright Township
After an awesome day hiking and exploring, your gal was hungry! I decided to stop by the beautiful quaint little town of Bright. To this day it is still one of my favourite towns to visit, so picturesque with local shops and eateries.
Of course I had to stop by this beautiful florist and to a Japanese restaurant which are both FAVOURITES of mine. Miso eggplant?! YES PLEASE.

I originally had plans to camp at the Riverview Caravan Park at the base of Mount Buffalo but I surprisingly made very good time, and decided it would be nicer to drive back to my Brothers farm for more family time (and a warm cosy bed), which resulted in more muddy farm work and sheep shearing!
