Dalpura Canyon

Dalpura Canyon

Dalpura canyon is a beautiful short canyon on the south side of Bells Line of Road. It’s a perfect beginner canyon, short run if you’re low on time and a great wet weather option as its fairly low flow compared to most Blue Mountains canyons.

The tracks in and out are well defined, even more so these days thanks to a certain group of local ‘enthusiasts’ seemingly exploiting locations for click bait and a solid income source… BUT ANYWAY

It starts off as a nice creek walk before entering the real canyon sections. There’s a few side creeks that are quite beautiful along the way!

I’ve been through Dalpura canyon a few times now but most of these photos are from my first time, which also happened to be one of my first times seeing ghost mushrooms!! It was such a pity to see them in a place that was so hard to get to at nighttime, but epic to see them nonetheless!

The last abseil is the real gem of this canyon, a short waterfall drops into a beautiful cavern swimming hole. There is even a ledge on the right side (looking at the photos) where you can easily walk through the pool to dry land.

The canyon walls above really close in and create the most beautiful, sculptured rock ceiling, it really is a beautiful spot. Unfortunately, due to its location now being over shared online, it’s become the next popular Instagram spot, so it’s now almost impossible to get it on your own on weekends.

The exit hike starts shortly after the cavern abseil, though there is a waterfall and abseil below it that most canyoners seem to skip. On our first trip we decided to give it a go, and it’s quite fun actually! A good slide on your bum abseil.

I’m Rach!

Welcome to Rachmartee, my personal collection of adventures through-out Australia over the years. Here, I invite you to join me, my friends or my pups on a journey of mishaps, bush bashes, lesser known trails, heartfelt stories and epic scenery!

I have lived and grown up within the ACT and rural NSW my whole life. Getting outside fills my heart with joy and wonder, it calms my nerves, helps me feel grounded and helps me feel connected to this world. I hope these stories and adventures will be an archive collection I can reflect back on for many years, for my family to see what I am getting up to on all these crazy trips and for my children to one day see the crazy and wild things that shaped who their mother is.

Let’s connect
