Serendipity Canyon

Serendipity Canyon

Serendipity Canyon, or otherwise known as ‘Why don’t we do it in the road?’ canyon is one of the shorter, easier and more accessible canyons at Mt Wilson in the Blue Mountains.

The naming of this canyon is quite funny, apparently the story goes that a lad named Tony Norman, who was one of the first parties to visit the supper section of the creek named it so, turns out he was a Beatles fan. The canyon was later re-named by another lad Glen Robinson to Serendipity, not sure the reason why but serendipity does mean good luck in making unexpected and fortunate discovers, so I think that is quite a fitting name for a canyon!

There are plenty of fun abseils in this one, with a beautiful sculpted slot halfway through. You feel like you’re in a completely different world.

At the end of the canyon there is a wonderful picnic ledge over looking the Wollongambe, a perfect spot for lunch and to dry out your gear. The walk back is pretty cruisey compared to most other Gambe canyons.

I’m Rach!

Welcome to Rachmartee, my personal collection of adventures through-out Australia over the years. Here, I invite you to join me, my friends or my pups on a journey of mishaps, bush bashes, lesser known trails, heartfelt stories and epic scenery!

I have lived and grown up within the ACT and rural NSW my whole life. Getting outside fills my heart with joy and wonder, it calms my nerves, helps me feel grounded and helps me feel connected to this world. I hope these stories and adventures will be an archive collection I can reflect back on for many years, for my family to see what I am getting up to on all these crazy trips and for my children to one day see the crazy and wild things that shaped who their mother is.

Let’s connect
