Rocky Creek Canyon

Rocky Creek Canyon

I am still astounded that after 4 years of active canyoning I have only been through Rocky Creek Canyon once! Bismal!!

Rocky Creek was my third ever canyoning and it is a brilliant one for beginners. It is an out and back canyon with no abseils, so effectively its a natural water park, full of slides, jumps and good times!

I went with a group of 5 people, 2 being good friends of mine, but it was a fun group! An especially fun way to spend Valentines Day as a group of singles!

Some of us had wet suites, some did not, so some definitely suffered more than others as it was COLD and you get very wet! We were all beginners in the sport at this time, so we were all just exploring and testing out the gear.

The water was FUN. A much better way to get comfortable with heavy flow/water hazards in a safe and low challenged environment.

Look at the joy on all our faces, it honestly felt like we were at a water park, it was so much fun.

It’s very humbling reflecting back on these experiences 4 years later… a skater helmet, a surfer wetsuit and a dry bag backpack are certainly not on the gear list anymore!

It is a stunning canyon, i’m very keen to get back and take some much better photos. It is known for being one of the most picturesque canyons in the Blue Mountains, which means all of Australia too!

We ended up continuing along Rocky Creek after the canyon finished and exited up a very dogy pagoda climb and eventually made our way back to the cars. This was before I realised it was more common to reverse the canyon… I think ill be reversing it next time!

I’m Rach!

Welcome to Rachmartee, my personal collection of adventures through-out Australia over the years. Here, I invite you to join me, my friends or my pups on a journey of mishaps, bush bashes, lesser known trails, heartfelt stories and epic scenery!

I have lived and grown up within the ACT and rural NSW my whole life. Getting outside fills my heart with joy and wonder, it calms my nerves, helps me feel grounded and helps me feel connected to this world. I hope these stories and adventures will be an archive collection I can reflect back on for many years, for my family to see what I am getting up to on all these crazy trips and for my children to one day see the crazy and wild things that shaped who their mother is.

Let’s connect
